Heart of Ohio Pattern Classic

On June 2-3 the TORKS, Inc. hosted the Heart of Ohio Pattern Classic. I would like to thank everybody who showed up to make this a great event and hope you had a good time.  Thank You!  We had 16 pilots competing and after a quick pilots meeting we got things started. There were two rounds flown without incident.  A 15 minute lunch break was stretched to 2 hours due to rain.  After the rain stopped the flight lines were fired back up and we were under way again.  Half way through the first flight Dave Johnstone and Ron Hansen found the exact same spot in the sky. Ron’s Smaragd had the left wing cut off and was a total lost. Dave’s killer Eclipse landed safely with only a small bite out of the wing tip and loose landing gear.  After checking out his plane Dave successfully finished the round.  Rounds 3 and 4 were complete by 6:30 and after a few practice flights we were off to Hoggy’s for dinner.

Sunday we showed up a little early in hopes of beating the weather but the rain beat us to the punch.  After the rain, round 5 started around 10:30.  A few pilots left early so we ran only one flight line.  The rain held off for the rest of the day and we finished all six rounds.  Other than the round 3 mid air there were no other mishaps.  A special thanks to Tower Hobbies for the gift certificates presented to the Sportsman pilots.
