The following write-up was contributed by Ray Morton: The Flying Cardinals hosted the District IV Pattern Championships on September 22-23rd. There were a total of 33 competitors driving up to 10 or 11 hours (Al, Ga, Tn, Ky, Oh, Mi, In, Il) to fly in this annual precision aerobatic contest. There were some hard fought battles in many of the classes with several trophies decided by just a few points over 4000 possible points. Trophies were awarded through 3rd place in each class as well as the overall 2007 District IV Champions by class. It was a real treat to see Andrew Jesky, a member of this years' US World Championship team (along with Jason Shulman and Quique Somenzini) to compete in the contest and demonstrate the finals and unknown routines that he will be flying at the aerobatic World Championships in Argentina in November. The field was in top shape and all the competitors appreciated all the hard work the members did to make this contest a success. The pattern contest was not the only activity this contest is known for, there was also a fantastic steak dinner, and night time entertainment with a fun fly contest using glo-sticks after dark. D4 Finals Contest results: Sportsman: Michael Cilles 4000.0000 Jim Gruntkowski 3685.2532 Greg Morehead 3589.2190 Garry Stephens 3581.7632 Marcus Knoerl 3546.3909
